Oberammergau Passion Play and Germany Highlights - August 31-Sept . 10, 2010 (Tuesday-Friday, 11 Days)

The small community of Oberammergau with its 5,300 inhabitants is known worldwide for the impressive Passion Plays performed every ten years.  This unique tradition will once again attract visitors from all over the world in 2010. The Oberammergau Passion Play began in 1634 as a result of a promise to God.   In the middle of the Thirty Years War, after months of suffering and death from the plague, the Oberammergauers swore an oath that they would perform the "Play of the Suffering, Death and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ" every ten years. they fulfilled their pledge for the first time at Pentecost in 1634.
